Biotech and speculative technology names dominated today’s session, driving a pronounced uptick in overall small-cap performance. The Russell 2000 benchmark rose more than 2.5%, buoyed by clinical-stage companies reporting positive data and SPAC-related plays seeing renewed interest. High-volume tickers outnumbered major index names, suggesting risk-on positioning among retail traders.

Heat mapping of percentage gains shows nearly half the table above exceeded 50% increases, while trading volumes surged well above 30 million shares in multiple cases. This combination of sharp moves and elevated turnover is characteristic of headline-driven stories and low float structures.

Large-cap participation was more muted, with only CNC among the S&P 500 components posting a modest 6.2% gain on steady volume. Across sectors, biotechnology retained the lead, followed by small financial technology platforms and digital asset-related issues.
