0% Convertible Bonds Raise 1.7 Trillion Won.. U.S. Semiconductor Packaging Company Secures Major Investment Funds

Amkor Technology (NASDAQ: AMKR) has privately placed zero-coupon convertible senior notes due 2031, raising up to $1.15 billion (approximately KRW 1.7 trillion), and entered into a trust agreement with U.S. Bank Trust Company on May 5. The notes carry a conversion price of $106.37 per share—about 52.5% above the April 30 closing price—allowing investors to convert each $1,000 principal amount into 9.4013 shares of common stock. These unsecured senior notes are guaranteed by Guardian Asset Management and certain subsidiaries and include provisions for early redemption by the company if specified share-price conditions are met, as well as a put right for investors upon significant corporate events such as mergers and acquisitions.

Semiconductor Packaging

On April 27, in its first-quarter 2026 financial results, Amkor reported revenues of $1.685 billion and net income of $83 million. The company also announced a $300 million share repurchase program and a full-year capital expenditure plan of $2.5–3.0 billion. Additionally, Amkor is investing up to $7 billion (over KRW 9 trillion) to build one of the largest advanced semiconductor packaging campuses in Peoria, Arizona, targeting volume production in 2028 to strengthen the U.S. back-end semiconductor supply chain.

Headquartered in Arizona, Amkor is the world’s largest U.S.-based outsourced semiconductor assembly and test (OSAT) provider, handling packaging and testing services for key applications such as smartphones, data centers, automotive, and artificial intelligence. In the global OSAT market, it competes with Taiwan’s ASE and China’s JCET and has established itself as a critical back-end partner for fabless and foundry companies through its extensive manufacturing footprint across Asia, including facilities in the U.S. and South Korea.
