2 Trillion Won Big Deal in Hemophilia Drug Acquisition
Incyte Corporation (NASDAQ: INCY) on July 6 (U.S. time) completed its acquisition of Vega Therapeutics, a subsidiary of Star Therapeutics, agreeing to pay $1.25 billion upfront (approximately KRW 1.7 trillion) plus up to $750 million (about KRW 1 trillion) in sales milestones, for a total deal value of up to $2 billion (roughly KRW 2.7 trillion). With this acquisition, the Phase III monoclonal antibody VGA039—which targets bleeding disorders such as von Willebrand disease—will join Incyte’s hematology portfolio. The upfront consideration will be recorded as a one-time R&D expense in Incyte’s third-quarter 2026 results.
Recently, Incyte significantly expanded its molecular AI collaboration with Genesis Molecular AI to accelerate the discovery of new drug candidates. It also reported consecutive positive Phase III results for INCA033989 (targeting myelofibrosis and other blood cancers) and the anti-CD19 antibody tafasitamab at the European Hematology Association (EHA) 2026 annual meeting and related symposia.
Headquartered in Wilmington, Delaware, Incyte is a mid-to-large-cap biopharmaceutical company focused on developing targeted therapies and immuno-oncology agents for hematologic malignancies and autoimmune diseases. As global pharmaceutical firms ramp up investment in antibodies and treatments for rare blood disorders, expanding hematology portfolios has become a key pipeline-diversification strategy in the highly competitive oncology and hematology markets.
