On September 8, 2026, Chime, Inc. (Nasdaq: CHYM) announced that it has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Central Service Corporation, the parent of Stride Bank, N.A., for approximately $590 million in cash, after which Stride will be renamed Chime Bank, N.A. and operate as a wholly owned banking subsidiary providing Chime with a national bank charter and integrated banking infrastructure. The company expects the deal, valued at about 1.5x Stride’s tangible book value, to be funded entirely from Chime’s existing cash without incremental capital, to generate more than $100 million in net synergies primarily from eliminating sponsor bank fees, lowering funding costs, and expanding lending products, and to be immediately accretive to earnings per share upon closing. Chime plans to consolidate its banking activities into the acquired bank, keep consolidated assets under $10 billion in the near term, and leverage its proprietary AI-native ChimeCore technology with Stride’s scaled banking platform to accelerate product innovation, strengthen resilience, and enhance its structural cost advantage, while also raising its Q3 2026 and full-year 2026 revenue and adjusted EBITDA guidance. The transaction, unanimously approved by the boards of both companies, is expected to close in the first half of 2027, subject to regulatory approvals from the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency and the Federal Reserve and other customary closing conditions, and will result in Chime becoming a bank holding company subject to increased regulatory oversight.
